Being a medicinal drug chemist since 16 years old and practicing it for over 33 years has allowed me to work with and find many cures for increasing ailments in our population. Illnesses are rising as natural medicines, and their analogs are scheduled into an illegal status where it becomes impossiable to work with the compound or study it entirely. Now I agree that a few of the compounds in schedules I to III are habit-forming and harmful with no medicinal value (cocaine). But, making the possession of the same an illegal act puts these drugs into the hands of underground chemists, gangs, and cartels. Groups where profit is the only driving force and impurities in these street drugs, are now causing an obscene amount of deaths due to overdoses from cheap adulterants.
Produced by the pound in biopharma labs in China and India and shipped without concern for any laws, eventually given to Canadians, unknowingly ending their life on first use with no chance of survival. We must change something to stop this. The deaths due to laced drugs on our streets are forever increasing. Opiate analogs are getting stronger. We should focus on the fact that there is another human in need of psychological treatment and rehabilitation; back into being productive and feeling well again.
No single person asks to become addicted to a drug; they are hurting inside and are seeking relief from that pain. And, yes, an opiate will give them that relief they seek 100% of the time! But at the cost of their relationships, ethics, self-esteem, house, car, children, and life.
